Frank and I traveled to Charlotte, NC to race in the first race of the 2009 Winter Short Track Series.
Frank, in his first short track race, brought home a win in the 40+ beginner category. He got away from the field on lap 3 and stayed away to finish a minute in front of 2nd place. He looked comfortable through the entire race, increasing his gap on every lap towards the end of the race. Way to go.
I had a rough and tough race in a fast field that strung out soon after the race started. It was my first hard effort of the year, so it was not too dissapointing, but... I also raced the course using stupidity, Frank gave a perfect scouting report of the course and the places to use/save effort, I didn't listen, I tried to overpower the course and it won! I completed the expert category race with a 10th place finish.
